The 1880s legend of De Leon Springs

How a Florida spring became the nation's "Fountain of Youth" — and what it means for our remedies.

Heritage · 5 min read

Long before Deleon Springs Trading Co. filled its first dropper, the spring it's named for was already famous. Tucked into the woods of Volusia County, Florida, the clear waters of De Leon Springs had drawn travelers for generations — but it was in the 1880s that the legend took its modern shape.

The property's owners renamed it "Ponce de Leon Springs" and advertised it across the northern states as Florida's own Fountain of Youth — a winter resort where restorative "healing waters" promised renewal. The name stuck, and so did the story.

"A real place, a real legend, and a natural link between water, botanicals, and vitality."

Heritage, not a health claim

It's important to be clear about what the legend is — and isn't. The Fountain of Youth is folklore, and we treat it that way: as heritage and provenance, the emotional core of an apothecary brand. It is not a medical claim about our products, and the company itself was founded in 2026, not the 1880s. What the spring gives us is a sense of place and a tradition worth honoring.

From legend to formulary

The old apothecaries built trust the honest way: name the active ingredient, state what it does, and label it plainly. That's the tradition we've adopted. Every DSTC remedy carries a full Drug Facts panel, maximum-strength actives, and copy that never reaches beyond what the label supports.

So when you reach for our ear drops or nerve roll-on, you're holding a small piece of that story — a modern remedy, made in the old-world tradition, drawn from the waters of a place that has promised renewal for well over a century.
